running out of words

Uh oh, I sure hope that means you're running out of words, rather than thinking I am. I mean, I have a couple unused dictionaries sitting here still, so I am not worried about my possible vocabulary.

So what can we do to help you out with your vocabulary?

Have you tried flash cards? Each one has a different word, and on the back, the definition of that word. This way, you can test yourself and see how much you remember.

Flash cards are a wonderful idea. They surely helped me. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. But I must say, you can get into trouble if you don't watch which words you learn. Be sure to mix up the type of words you are learning. There's nothing worse than being at the video store looking for an entertaining movie and the only words you have studied were golfing terms. Might be a long night watching "Tiger Woods Tells It As It Is" and Fox's "When Golfer's Take on Lightning."

Also, it's very important you don't mix your flash cards up with any other common deck of cards. I once grabbed a deck of UNO cards by mistake when I rushed off on a business trip and when I got to the big meeting, all I could say was "Skip" and "Uno." I can tell you it didn't go over very well.

A vocabulary is a terrible thing to waste, so be sure to recycle those dictionaries & thesauri when you're done with them.
