Viewer's Choice

it's me, russ

Oh my! Has this site become such a cult thing that people are want to namedrop?

Is Viewer's Choice [the website] becoming a hangout for the hip & trendy? I sure hope so. I envision this site as something like Talk Soup without the clips. Or Entertainment Tonight without that bad-ass John Tesh. Like Wheel of Fortune without having to spin the wheel.

Which makes me wonder when I am gonna get submissions like "Annette, Should I run?" or "Madonna, have my baby".

Will this four word thing become a cult phenomena? Will I open the New York Times to see all of their articles starting with four word headlines submitted by people on the street? Will Newsweek have a cover article "The Millenium Told in Four Words."

I think I'm being acquired by Time Warner!

But to beleaguer a point, and to complete a distinct change of direction. Is the above actually four words? Is a contraction counted as one or two words?

I think this is a question that every high school and college student has asked themselves at some point. When they are sitting at their word processors late at night, trying to come up with 3,500 words on the French efforts at politeness in speech during World War 2, you know they were wondering whether they should be writing "is not" or "ain't" I've asked myself that question a hundred dozen times (I really like the idea of thinking purely in powers of a dozen. It gets me thinking of donuts. Ummmmmm, sprinkled!)

Well I am here to act as the authority on the issue. I have proclaimed myself Grammar Queen on this paticular thorny issue. I do decree that "it's" is in fact just one word. So set your word counter's back a century boys, get cranking on removing the contractions from that college thesis, and get me a donut while you're at it!
