| iambic pentameter: scott's friend First off, I know several Scotts, so I can just hope this isn't from any of them. With that said, I must note how sad this is: that this guy's friend is iambic pentameter. I mean, how sad must your life be when your best friend is a convention of modern poetry? Now I can believe that rhyming might be a good friend to some people. I mean, it makes rapper's a lot of money. It sounds kind of cool when somebody rhymes, and often it's a bit of a challenge. We all sort of envy the people who can rhyme things. But have we ever envied the iambic pentameter? I must admit, that when I was a kid, I had a couple brushes with a really cool haiku I met at summer camp. We spent several days completely inseparable, though he never really had much to say. Then there was that time in high school when I couldn't get this limerick out of my mind. I mean, wow, that was hot! You're not gonna find something racy like that in just any poetry book. But iambic pentameter, I just don't understand it. What is this world coming too? I don't mean to sound like my college writing professor, but get a life man. No one needs the iambic pentameter. This is the age of free verse, enjoy the freedom. Burn you bras and ditch that stuff you read in the history books. With that said, I'm sorry for you Scott. If there's anything I can do, let me know. Maybe we can take up a collection or something. |
