| In high school I started keeping track of all the books I finished. Once you start, you sort of feel funny not continuing the list. Now I feel bad I didn't start the list sooner. So, here it is, no longer a list on binder paper, but rather in a database and all that fancy jazz. Perhaps it'll be of some interest to you - getting a sense for my interests. But regardless, it's sort of a legacy thing for me. |

| The Lost Symbol Dan Brown |
| I like the adventure in Dan Brown's books. Having read another thriller right before this one, I know there's an art & science to writing these that not everyone does in the same way and to the same effect. I like Brown's style. The concurrent action and characters allows him to increase the intensity of all the action that is going on. It creates a lot of stopping and starting (and hence 100+ chapters) but for the most part, it increases the value of the total, in my opinion. There is a lot of trivia and the like to be learned from his books. I like this. Sure, it's not earth-shattering revelations or even the true material, it's hints at things you could easily get in more detail and with more accuracy elsewhere. But since I am really not into religion or symbols, these are about enough for me. The story was a good one.. at least in the sense that I was engaged and happy to continue on. In the end, it was a bit too much in some areas.. preaching as many people would put it. But I was willing to settle for some of that summation in order to be taken on that tour of places and thoughts. |
